The Huron County Immigration Partnership is celebrating Welcoming Week in Huron County from September 12 – 21, 2025. Welcoming Week is an annual celebration that takes place globally to celebrate and welcome people to new communities. It is a time for people from all backgrounds to come together to celebrate and demonstrate the importance of being good neighbours. Events will include block parties, community picnics, arts festivals and more!
Creating welcoming environments can help to develop good health and promote economic development in rural communities. Huron County is home to many newcomers; People come from international communities, urban areas and from other rural communities. Newcomers face many unique opportunities and challenges in settling into rural communities. A recent report released, the Newcomer Experiences of Housing in Huron Perth Report found that community support was integral for fostering a sense of belonging.
