Cancer Screening Initiative

The Integrated Rural Screening Initiative is a new program
focused on improving access to early cancer detection for
rural residents. Building on Gateway CERH’s strong
community partnerships, this project brings screening
awareness directly into Gateway CERH’s existing
programs. By integrating evidence-based screening
information into programs like BRAVE-F, Farmers’ Safety &
Well-Being, and Legion Learning, we aim to reduce barriers,
increase participation, and promote proactive health.

Project Background

Many rural residents face challenges when it comes to
staying up to date with cancer screening, whether it’s the
long distance to clinics, uncertainty about eligibility, or
simply not knowing where to begin. Rural cancer screening
brings information and support closer to home through
hosting engaging workshops in familiar places like fire halls
and Legions. The program helps residents understand
Ontario’s organized screening programs and connects them
to the right resources for timely testing and care.
