Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is working in partnership with the Huron Health System and the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry to promote understanding of healthcare opportunities for high school students at a fun summer camp experience. From July 7 - 11th, three medical students and Gateway CERH research assistant, Julie Wein, invite healthcare professionals (nurses, doctors, social workers) to speak and run workshops such as casting, suturing and injections.
Paramedics came to visit the camp and share their experiences as emergency medical services. Students were able to see the inside of an ambulance and ask questions about how they save lives!
Dr. Ken Milne attended camp and conducted an informative workshop on how to cast! The learning continues for the rest of the week.
Thank you to the Goderich Lions Club for generously donating Camp Klahanie for the week.
