Gateway CERH Celebrates Local Caregivers at Recognition Event

Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health (Gateway CERH) hosted a Caregiver Recognition Event on Thursday, September 17th, at the Libro Community Hall in Clinton, bringing together around 70 community members to celebrate and recognize the dedication of local caregivers.
Twenty-two caregivers from across Huron County were nominated to receive a recognition award and a small gift of appreciation in honour of the time, compassion, and care they provide to others.
The evening allowed caregivers to connect and share their experiences. Two nominees spoke openly about their own journeys, offering honest reflections on the complexities that can come from caring for someone they love.
The event was organized by Sophia Buckman, Gateway CERH Research Assistant, who described the experience as a meaningful opportunity to help caregivers feel seen, appreciated, and valued.
“It was incredibly meaningful to create a space where we could celebrate their care and compassion and remind them that the impact they make deeply matters,” said Sophia
Gateway CERH President & Founder, Gwen Devereaux, closed the evening by saying, “Those who give the most are often the ones who are recognized the least.” The sentiment reflects why Gateway CERH believes recognizing caregivers is so important.
The event is part of Gateway CERH’s SHARP (Skilled Healthcare Attraction & Retention Program), which works to recognize and support the people who contribute to the health and well-being of rural communities.
In rural areas, healthcare professionals and caregivers often go above and beyond, particularly during challenging and uncertain times. SHARP recognition events provide an opportunity to honour their contributions while creating space for connection among people who share similar experiences.
Gateway CERH is grateful to everyone who nominated a caregiver and helped make the evening a meaningful celebration of those who care for others in our communities.
