Celebrating Pride, 2025

June is Pride Month. It is a time to celebrate diversity, honour the resilience of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and reflect on the continued efforts needed to create safe and inclusive spaces for all. At Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH), we stand in strong support of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, including those living in rural communities across Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce.

Gateway CERH is committed to advancing rural health equity. We work to ensure that healthcare in rural settings is not only accessible but also affirming and inclusive. This includes advocating for culturally competent care, using inclusive language, and amplifying the voices of 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals living in rural areas.

Several organizations in Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce are working to improve access to health and social services for all residents:

  • United Way Perth-Huron provides funding and coordination for community programs focused on mental health, housing, and basic needs. Their 211 service connects individuals with local support 24/7.

  • Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) offers sexual health services, immunizations, and health education, with a focus on inclusive and equitable care.

  • SouthWesthealthline.ca is a searchable online directory of health and social services in the region. It helps residents locate 2SLGBTQIA+-friendly providers and programs ().

  • Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) serves the region through local hospitals and community health services committed to patient-centred care.

This month, communities across the region are coming together to celebrate Pride through local events.

  • Huron County Pride takes place in Goderich on Saturday, June 7 at the Courthouse Square.

  • Grey-Bruce Pride will be held in Owen Sound on Saturday, June 21, coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Day, and will feature a Pride parade and street celebration.

To further explore, we invite readers to visit our blog post, Alzheimer’s Awareness Month: Illuminating the Journey of 2SLGBTQI Communities Living with Dementia, and to watch our webinar, Better Supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ Older Adults with Dr. Ashley Flanagan (Season 3, Episode 1), both available on our website.

At Gateway CERH, we are proud to work toward a more inclusive future—this month and every month.
