Webinar poster on Rural Housing & Homelessness in Huron County: Plans & Progress, taking place on Sept. 15, 2026.

Rural Ontarians are facing increasing struggles in finding adequate, appropriate, and affordable housing. There is a mental toll of experiencing homelessness that needs to be addressed.

Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH) is hosting an upcoming webinar series event on Tuesday, September 15th, 2026, from 12 – 1 PM ET via ZOOM. The topic is “Housing and Homelessness in Huron County: Plans and Progress.” This session will focus on the unique challenges of responding to housing and homelessness in rural areas, and the need for appropriate servicing of mental health services.

Community leaders in Huron County will describe their interventions and what they are planning to do to tackle the problem at an individual, community, and regional level. Partnership is important. This webinar highlights the importance of collaboration and working together to solve a hard issue.

For this discussion, we welcome several speakers:

Lynn Higgs is the Chief Nursing Executive and Vice President of Clinical Services with the Huron Health System, serving both the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital and South Huron Hospital.

Ryan Erb is the Executive Director of Perth-Huron United Way. He has 25 plus years of non-profit management, community development, and fundraising experience.
