Donation for Mental Health First Aid by ROOTs Community Fund

Updated: Apr 24

Mental health is as important as physical health for a person’s overall wellbeing. Although you may not be directly affected by mental health problem or illness, mental illness indirectly affects all Canadians at one point in your life or another, including a family member, friend or colleague (CMHA 2024).

Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health (CERH) is pleased to announce that Trillium Mutual Insurance through their ROOTs Community Fund has provided $10,000 to help support mental health first aid training sessions. Gateway CERH thanks Trillium Mutual Insurance for its incredible support.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the support provided to a person who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being, a mental health crisis, or substance use problem. MHFA is the immediate support provided to an individual until appropriate treatment is found or the crisis is resolved.

The MHFA training sessions will provide invaluable skills to gain confidence and the ability to appropriately respond to someone who is experiencing mental distress. Other benefits of training include greater knowledge of local resources that community members can access before a crisis point is reached and increased safety in the workplace.
